We started 802. because we'd seen the other way too many times.
VC pressure pushing teams to ship before they understood the problem. Offshore agencies churning out code that someone, eventually, would have to throw away. Prompt-engineered prototypes hand-waved into production with the rationalization that "we'll harden it later."
Later never comes. The platform either limps along on technical debt for years, or gets rewritten — usually by the same client, paying twice for what should have been done once.
Vermont's culture rubs off on the work. Stone walls outlast their builders. Sugar maples take 40 years to tap. Around here, things are made to last not because of nostalgia, but because the alternative — replacement — is more expensive than patience.
802.software is intentionally small and senior-led. Two-week paid discovery before any production code. Fixed-band budgets. No offshore, no juniors, no subcontractors. Documentation as a deliverable, not an afterthought. Architecture you can hand off cleanly to your in-house team — because that's the goal, not a perpetual retainer.

If it's worth building, it's worth testing. Coverage thresholds gate every PR, on day one.
Privacy by default
Encryption at rest and in transit. Audit logs that survive subpoenas. Data minimization always.
Documentation is product
Code explains how. Docs explain why. Both ship together — never as a "we'll get to it" task.

Founded
Elena and Marcus left their previous companies and registered 802. Two engagements signed before the LLC paperwork cleared.
First production launch
Northbridge Health goes live. Replaces a 12-year-old VB.NET system across 38 clinics with zero downtime.
SOC 2 Type II achieved
Two months ahead of plan. Auditor's note read: "evidence trail unusually clean."
Studio expansion
Moved into our current South Burlington office. Team grew from 6 to 10 over the year.
VEA Timeclock ships
Workforce platform now serving 220+ companies, 9,400 tracked employees.
Granite Ledger production
Real-time settlement engine for a regional commodity exchange. P99 settled at 187ms.
Today
12 staff. 38 production platforms. ISO 27001 in progress. Two engagements open for Q3.
