Vermont taught us
how to build slowly.

A founder-led studio in South Burlington. Senior-only, end-to-end accountability, secure software built for companies who plan to be around in ten years.

We started 802. because we'd seen the other way too many times.

VC pressure pushing teams to ship before they understood the problem. Offshore agencies churning out code that someone, eventually, would have to throw away. Prompt-engineered prototypes hand-waved into production with the rationalization that "we'll harden it later."

Later never comes. The platform either limps along on technical debt for years, or gets rewritten — usually by the same client, paying twice for what should have been done once.

Vermont's culture rubs off on the work. Stone walls outlast their builders. Sugar maples take 40 years to tap. Around here, things are made to last not because of nostalgia, but because the alternative — replacement — is more expensive than patience.

802.software is intentionally small and senior-led. Two-week paid discovery before any production code. Fixed-band budgets. No offshore, no juniors, no subcontractors. Documentation as a deliverable, not an afterthought. Architecture you can hand off cleanly to your in-house team — because that's the goal, not a perpetual retainer.

It's not for everyone. If you need to ship a demo by Friday in a hurry, we're not your studio. If you're building something you intend to operate in 2030, and you want senior accountability end-to-end, we should talk.

How we think

Six principles
we don't flex on.

These aren't aspirations. They're the things we'll walk away from a project over.

P—01

Boring tech, sharp execution

We bias toward technology with five-year proof in production. No experiments on your dime.

P—02

Tests are non-negotiable

If it's worth building, it's worth testing. Coverage thresholds gate every PR, on day one.

P—03

Privacy by default

Encryption at rest and in transit. Audit logs that survive subpoenas. Data minimization always.

P—04

Documentation is product

Code explains how. Docs explain why. Both ship together — never as a "we'll get to it" task.

P—05

Senior pods, no offshore

Every commit ships from a senior on full-time staff in the US. No agency shell games.

P—06

Replaceable by design

We architect every platform so your in-house team can take over cleanly. That's the goal — not a perpetual retainer.

The studio

Senior-led.
End-to-end accountability.

802.software is intentionally small. Senior-led, end-to-end accountability, zero handoffs to offshore or junior teams. When you talk to us, you're talking to someone who can answer for the architecture.

  • Designs in Figma, ships in Next.js, deploys before lunch

No subcontractors

Every commit, design, and deploy goes out under a senior signoff. If something breaks at 2am, the person who built it is the person who fixes it.

No retainers by default

Fixed-band engagements with a clean handoff. If you want a long-term partnership after, we can talk.

No surprise bills

Discovery is paid and capped. Implementation lands in a fixed band. Scope changes are written, not whispered.

Then & now

Four years.
Quietly compounding.

The milestones we mark internally — and a few we don't.

Work with the founder

Not a queue.
Not a pitch deck.

Direct line to the person writing the code. The studio takes on a handful of engagements a year, on purpose. If you've got something built to last, let's see if we're a fit.

— What you get
Founder on every call

No account managers. No "let me check with the team." Decisions in the same meeting.

Two-week paid discovery

Before any production code. Capped scope, written deliverable, walk away if it's not a fit.

Clean handoff

Every engagement ends with documentation, runbooks, and a working knowledge transfer.
